I am gonna bring up a topic which will probably end in a heavy discussion. But sometimes that's needed I think.
The topic is moderation. Moderating, it still happened when LOS was on. Some of the old 'crew members' wanted it back and it was launched a little with the new LOS. But now the leading question. Will we launch it here? AU at the moment is undermoderated. And in my view there still comes work online here that shouldn't be here. With moderation we should throw a part of the work out and I then especially aim at the wallpapers and indy-art works.
Of course there are positive points when we do this. Less works online means more viewing time which means that the creator gets more attention from other users.
So what are your thoughts? To moderate or not?

But wouldn't that mean a lot more job for the moderators too? Maybe not everyone is willing to put up with that. But if you decide to start moderating, there are some things I'd like to suggest first.
For example: An information page on what should be submitted to which category. What is the difference between a doodle and a sketch for example? I'm not english/american/put any other english speaking country here, so there are a few fine differences that I might not notice.

tough call stev. crap to one is art to another. if it helps the cause then go for it

I dunno, stev. I haven't seen any discussions about it in the shoutbox or forums, but have you been getting complaints from members about this?
If there isn't an actual problem, it seems best to take a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach. I personally try to give people some wiggle room, only enforcing the rules when absolutely necessary.

Suprisingly by itself quality on this site has gone up with out intervention from the admins. If the work is bad enough users will give negative reviews which get the people to leave. LOS however needs moderation.

Moderation is always a good idea on any site. I submitted something and had it flooded off almost right away. But that concerns other matters.
My opinion is yes, there should be moderation on here. Without it you get a lot of extra stuff that shouldn't be there. and people become uphappy with what does happen (low number of pageviews/comments)
just my $0.02 worth.

I think many people see moderation as a no go because when you get moderated out you get no help. This is certainly not what I want. I even have the idea of a group of AU'ers that advise the authors from works that have been moderated out.
And chaz if LOS needs moderation, then why AU doesn't?

I like to see everything, and I don't think that moderation is really necessary excepting hateful work.
It is useful for me to see differing ideas of what art is and learn from other peoples work.
All art is useful to me as which styles, feels and moods I can use in improving my work and which I should stay well away from.
On the other hand getting rid of some of the trash would give us more time on the front page and hopefully more comments.
It's gonna have to be rock, paper, scissors.
or we could flip a coin

Ok, in case you do start moderation of art submissions make sure to clearly outline possible reasons for deletion of submissions so its clear that some rule was broken rather than moderator simply didn't like it.
For example very erotic and possilby pornographic photos and drawings probably should be moderated.

"For example very erotic and possilby pornographic photos and drawings probably should be moderated. "
Some of the best art in history has been both of these. (depending on how erotic and pornographic is defined)
Why should it be moderated out?

Maybe you could just put a 'mature content' label on them...

A mature conent label should be something like a button to click on before you see it. The mature content thingie at DA makes no sense at all in my op.

No, DA's way doesn't really work.

I see know reason at all for us to start acting like prissy little schoolmarms by treating erotic art as if it were going to corrupt someone's morals.
I think the "mature content" warnings are an insult to the intelligence of any serious member of any age, and anyway it would just serve as an head's up for the less mature among us.
Beside's, any horny minors looking for a thrill can easily browse the billions of porno material available on the web, so what would be the point of wasting time and energy on segregating our art when we could be doing more productive and important stuff (like talking about how sexy I sound on the radio)?
I get enough of that dumbass born-again crap in my daily life here in the good ol' USofA. I don't need or want it here.

i think it could be a good idea or a horrible idea
pending on how it's doen it could easily make alot of people angry
i don't see why us admins can';t just check out most of the art like we do and actually do our jobs...
if people have not been complaining, as chaz said, i see no real purpose to fix a problem until it really becomes one...

Maybe it's better to prevent it from becoming a problem.
