I want to know wat programs people use to make their 3D art and their computer generated artwork. If you know programs for beginners, that would be great. Also put in programs that are a little bit more advanced for when I get more used and experienced with this

I use 3d studio max for all my modeling and rendering purposes. it is defiantly a professional level program. 3d studio max is not some thing you can pick up really fast, it takes dedicated time. none of the real professional programs (i.e. Maya, blender, light wave 3d) are easy to lurn.
Another fun and in some way easyer way to build fun stuff in 3d, is with game engines. Now a days their is lots of free game engines that get released with computer games. I mess around with the unreal tournament 2005 engine, its really fun. it's ton's easyer than 3d studio max because it primarily deals with simple primitives i.e. boxs, cylanders ,spheres. This map was built by me with squares and cylinders only [ link ] . but in no way is it limited to that the sky really is the limit. if you've got a bad ass computer I hear that Doom 3 and Half Life 2 both come with their respective engines, and half life is definitely out there for weak computers.
Some people, people I don't agree with mind you. Think that it's really cool to "make" stuff with programs like Bryce and Poser and terrigine and other poser programs. These programs are infantile compared to what 3d studio max or Maya can do. just cuz lots of you people out there don't seem to get what the difference is im gonna tell ya posing programs and their ilk are not modeling programs. their is no real way to model any thing of interest other than mountain's and water in them. They have no ability to do the finer parts of editable mesh modeling like cutting segments, welding, extruding or chamfering and numerous other modeling techniques. oh ya i almost for got meta balls suck sorry to tell ya they are played.

so ya in review
good 3d programs
3d studio max
Maya
blender (free ware / open source)
light wave 3d
3d game engines
unreal tournament 2005 / counter strike
doom3
half life / half life 2
cookie cutter 3d
bryce
poser
terragen

In addition to the already mentioned programs, I would recomend that you try out Vue. You can create very simple scenes and the more advanced user can do more professional work as well. It is affordable in comparison with some of the other programs. You can find it at the e-on software website.

as a note... terragen has been used in several films including the more recent one "Stealth"... take a look at it when you get a chance.
