Nude art taking over? / Is it all too real?

Lately I've noticed a lot more sexual/naked drawings and pieces of art being submitted, and i'm wondering what happened to all the old masterpieces of art without sexual attraction. I know Liquidd had a topic similar to this a while back and that the community had concluded that sexual/naked pieces of art got more views, however when I look at the front page all I see is drawings, sketches, and art of naked and half-naked women. Honestly, this may drive away some of the younger and some of the more mature audience, because many believe that though it is art, it is a very cheap way of getting people to look at it. I'm just wondering what your opinion is on the whole thing, because I am only 14 and some of this stuff is very innapropriate for myself and others.

can't say i can think of any old(or new) "masterpieces" i have been sexually attracted to.
That said i wish people would include links to examples when they make posts like these. So if you wouldn't mind post some links to these uploads which offend you or you feel are inappropriate so we can go from there.

I think the real problem is, that it's loads of younger people (12-15) submitting that stuff. Which shouldn't be aloud
It's not the younger ppl submitting that it's the older crowd I think, but everyone sees art their own way so as long as it's done not too offensively I doubt any of it will be deleted I've only seen maybe 2-3 pcs as long as I've been here that actually deserved to be dumped (and that's cuz they were just outright porn style)

I agree.. as long it's not porn I don't mind...

The thing is, some people do mind, and one of the big points is that I can no longer look at this site during school because the filters have blocked it for "Pornography" I just wish there was a seperate section for this, I mean I understand this is art, but in all art there are boundaries.

No offense to any younger people but art is what it is. May it be nude, nature, or whatever. It's not the artists fault for uploading a work they pride themselves in. Most of these "offensive" works are out their for a cheap peep but mostly out for criticism. It's the younger kiddies problems, not the artists.
I hope everyone suffers because with suffering comes gratitude

cloud: again, please use examples. what is obscene to you is not going to be the same for everyone (as proven by your school deeming this site pornographic, which by definition of the word it is clearly not)

I personally haven't seen anyhting that has been what I consider "offensive" or pornographic. And AU has not nor will it condone such uploads. You must remember that some of histories greatest works were once deemed pornographic in nature... art is suppose to make us feel... awaken our sences and yes... sometimes even shock us.
As for filters in schools and th workplace... well one only needs to watch the nightly news to understand that one. but like they always say... "it only takes one bad apple to spoil the whole damn bunch."

Sorry viro, I thought I IM'd you those examples, but I'll try again. And thanks for your imput everyone, I'll show this to the school board and see if I can't unblock AU from the filters

last time i checked... nude was one of the oldest forms of art... what's the big deal? young or old alike... as long as it's not perverted i don't see why there would be a problem.. ART is ART...

There is a difference between nude and naked ... there is a difference between art and porn... the intention is often the difference. Question the intent. If it’s to see the beauty of the human form it's most likely art. If it express’s a moment in time like Renoir or monet'with nudes bathing its art. If there's mad twat in yo' face then my friend that's porn.
But Porn like other debotrouse activities can still have artistic quality to them though. Because of art / beauty is in the eye's of the beholder. Also artist’s use the name of Art to get chick's... Err Ahemmm Ackhem... I mean Women, naked often. Though I would consider the end goal art... look at Picaso.
Point is though, nude is not and should not be inappropriate, further more it is natural... and can be expressed that way, with grace, warmth and heart. When you go to an art gallery that’s how it is used, unless you’re at some kind of new aged, post modern, bohemian, hedonistic gallery then that’s porn. Anyway... being sheltered is dumb to me, you will have to deal with this sort of stuff, its just part of life. I'm not saying give the kiddie’s porn, but when they find it deal with it. Don’t try and say it never should have been there at all. If you don’t ever want to see nudity then make sure never to go online, never go to the beach, or walk down the street in a large city and for god sake don't ever take a bath.
Hey I got a challenge for all you out there... try this make some sexy art and don't show more skin than a 1920's swim suit you know get all hot and heavy with an ankle or some thing, or try this, make some sick ass, evil as hell, artwork but don't make it all black and red and dark blue use bright colors. You never know you might just make some thing really cool. Cool because of it's sudelty, not cuz it jumps off the page and says "HEY LOOK MAD TWAT!" or "kid with a gun" or "hey!drugs, drugs,DRUGS!!" Now that would be cool.
Some one who was right once said to me once "don’t beat the point of your art into your audience, it needs to have room for interpretation and self decision to make it great"
So ya I'm off topic right, not really, yes... sex sells but being good is better.

I'd say it would depend on the depiction. If it is merely to portray beauty I've nothing wrong with it. However, there are some where the entire purpose is just raw sexuality, sometimes even verging on pornography. There is no room in the art world for pornography and, yes, it is a very cheap way of getting more hits. It happens in every art community.

I uploaded some less dressed women, can anyone of you honestly say they call them porn? I would be very amazed because some of my drawings looking very alike are hanging in the corridors of my department of university. So, with us in Belgium no-one has a problem with them.

I haven't seen anyhting that has been pornographic. I think a womans body is a beautiful thing and I understand that people love to draw it. Most of the things i've seen here with half naked women in it, were just beautiful drawings...
